Who we are

Action A Day is a daily civic action newsletter operated from Brooklyn, NY. We send one concrete resistance action to subscribers' inboxes every morning. Our website is actionaday.com.

What we collect

When you subscribe, we collect:

• Email address — to send you the daily email
• First name — to personalize emails
• ZIP code, city, state, country (optional) — for potential regional action targeting
• Preferred send time and timezone — to deliver at your chosen hour
• How you heard about us (optional) — to understand how people find us

When you vote on an action, we record your vote anonymously. Votes are stored with a one-way hash derived from your subscriber ID — we cannot trace a vote back to your email address.

When you donate, payment is processed by Stripe. We receive confirmation of the donation but never see or store your full card number.

How we use it

• Delivering the daily action email
• Sending transactional emails (welcome, account access links)
• Showing aggregate participation counts (e.g., “1,847 people voted yes”)
• Internal analytics to understand subscriber growth and engagement

We do not sell your data. We do not share your email address with sponsors or third parties for marketing purposes.

Email delivery

Emails are sent via Brevo (formerly Sendinblue), our email delivery provider. Brevo processes your email address on our behalf in accordance with their privacy policy.

Unsubscribing

Every daily email contains an unsubscribe link. Clicking it removes you from the list immediately — no form, no confirmation email, no waiting period. You can also manage your subscription from your account page.

Data retention

We retain subscriber data for as long as you are subscribed. When you unsubscribe, your email address is moved to a suppression list (to prevent accidental re-subscription) and your personal details (name, location) are deleted. Suppression list entries are retained indefinitely to honor your opt-out.

Your rights

Depending on where you live, you may have the right to:

• Access the personal data we hold about you
• Request correction of inaccurate data
• Request deletion of your data
• Object to our processing of your data
• Receive a copy of your data in a portable format

Cookies and analytics

We use lightweight analytics to understand how many people visit our site and which pages they read. This does not involve tracking across other websites and does not use advertising cookies. We do not display cookie consent banners because we do not set third-party tracking cookies.

Children

Action A Day is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from anyone under 13.

Changes to this policy

If we make material changes to this policy, we will notify subscribers by email before the changes take effect. The “last updated” date at the top of this page reflects the most recent revision.
